In case you were wondering...

In case you were wondering...

This blog exists to encourage all those who have ever wanted--and needed!--a tiny getaway close to home. A workshop, playhouse, garden shed, sanctuary, mini-greenhouse, studio, home office; whatever it is you need, it IS doable, with some sacrifice, imagination, and compromise.

It helps if you're handy, too.

Where we are on Earth

No wonder we get so much wildlife at the shed...and just to the south of this a couple of blocks is a large wooded city park with a river and walking trail.  It's right on the very edge of town, which is why I bought this place 30 years ago.  It's STILL on the edge of town, how cool is that?  It would be hard to build on that steep wooded hill!

  1. Isn't that nice! Sometimes I enjoy being out here in the wild and other times I'd love to be within walking distance of everything I need. Sounds like you are rather in the middle with some of both.

Did you ever get the floor insulated or does that have to wait till spring now?

  2. Yes, it's very handy!

And nope, no one ever showed up. Guess it waits till spring, or at least a good thaw...the wool rug HELPS.

  3. Wonderful territory, Kate. And amazing to me, having seen the edges of towns move farther and farther out in many places, that the wild acreages here have not been destroyed.

  4. Here too, Annie, but so far (happily) we're on the wrong side of town to grow like that. Too far from the City, too far from the airport. The other side of town is getting horribly built up in the past 30 years! Developments, shopping centers, fast food, Walmart, ugly.

Plus that's a pretty steep hill, it would be very costly to build on it. This is a river valley town; those are the bluffs that surround it like a big bowl. An inland sea thousands of years ago created the limestone bluffs...

  5. I always get nervous when your blogs are silent for more than a few days. Hope you're okay.

  6. Thanks, Paul! Just juggling a wee bit too much. Gearing up for new mini-classes, so the shed's certainly been functioning as it's meant to, I work out there every day.

Thanks for the reminder, though, I meant to post a photo of my video-shooting setup as it stands right now...
