In case you were wondering...

This blog exists to encourage all those who have ever wanted--and needed!--a tiny getaway close to home. A workshop, playhouse, garden shed, sanctuary, mini-greenhouse, studio, home office; whatever it is you need, it IS doable, with some sacrifice, imagination, and compromise.

It helps if you're handy, too.

Utility corner

Joseph made me a neat little old-fashioned broom holder from a leftover board and a couple of wooden spools...works great.  There was a similar one on the steps to the basement, here, and we borrowed the idea....

It holds the broom's bristles upright, so it will last a lot longer...
I'd been needing both a stepstool to reach the storage area under the eaves on this side of the shed above the French doors, and more hidden storage...and voila!
Found this in an antiques booth that was going out of business...it was half price, beautiful condition and sturdy!

Now it holds the dust rag, the matches, mosquito coils, Windex, etc. all nicely out of sight but handy!

  1. Don't you just love the simple old ideas that still work so perfectly? :) And that stool looks like it was made to fit right there in that spot--and has storage! (And you could paint or stencil it, if you wanted to.) Things are really coming together. :)

  2. I was amazed with I carried it in, Rita, that's exactly where I'd wanted to put it but was afraid it was too wide. I'm keeping things simple, so far, so will probably just leave it white for now...GLAD to have someplace to hide the practical stuff though. :-)
