In case you were wondering...

In case you were wondering...

This blog exists to encourage all those who have ever wanted--and needed!--a tiny getaway close to home. A workshop, playhouse, garden shed, sanctuary, mini-greenhouse, studio, home office; whatever it is you need, it IS doable, with some sacrifice, imagination, and compromise.

It helps if you're handy, too.

...and there was light!

The new lamp came already!  You can see what a huge difference it's going to make.  It's not really that bright--I won't get a sunburn--but it will be wonderful for making art, especially at night.  (You can see the shelves are filling up too...looks homey, and it is VERY functional.)

We had thought maybe we could bring my ancient one home from the cabin, but it only works halfway, and half the time...so REALLY glad this one came today.

You can use just fluorescent (but who would want to!?!)  Kind of cold and blue...

Or just incandescent for warm light if you want to read...

Or both, if you want balanced light for judging color and value in artwork.  It's wonderful!  This one is an ALVIN Combination Swing-arm Task Light, and it was the least expensive model we found.

  1. Looks like a fantastic, versatile light . . . I'm putting it on my Christmas wish list. Thanks!

  2. It is! I was glad we could attach it to the shelves, and you can position it in all sorts of directions. Very, very versatile.

  3. I have two of those lamps and LOVE them! They're phenomenal for painting at night (which used to be the only time I had to paint...or early in the morning).

Tried your link up above and it said not found. Don't know if it's Blogger being a pain or the link is not valid....

  4. I really think it's going to solve the working out there problem...if I was just journaling the other was fine, but not for a serious assignment like the one I just had. I had to come back in the house and work by my old light!

And thanks for the heads up, it was my boo-boo. Sometimes I forget how to do links!

  5. I like the combo of light types. This is a neat lamp. Maybe I'll have something other than a Tiny House on my Christmas wishlist (and I know my husband isn't going to give me the house!).

Your "shed" is looking really neat. Did you name it?

  6. Your 'camp' looks so cosy and warm. I did enjoy seeing all your 'stuff' in situ!
I don't know if we can get those lights in the UK - shall have to check...

  7. Great lamp! I didn't know they had both in one lamp. Cool! It really did warm the place up. I can see how you'd be able to work out there now. I can picture you at your desk with your feet on the heating pad--ROFL! ;)

  8. Thanks, all! Other than what the title of the blog says, Sanity, it really doesn't have a name...I've used that kind of lamp for decades! I've actually worn two out...J. tried to repair one of them, and it limped along for a while, but finally went to recycle. LOVE them. (I'd like a full-spectrum lamp for SAD, the winter depression, too, but they're about $300. Maybe this'll work!)

Marancat, this was on Amazon, you might check AmazonUK! I was really surprised at the difference, as shown in that top picture! Imagine, I thought the hanging lamp would do it...

  9. Oh, I love this place SO much!!! It just gets better and better! And I'm thrilled to know about that lamp---I really need better lighting in my studio and this looks like it would be perfect.
    Yay, you and Joseph!

  10. Thank you, sweet thing, me too! It's like love made concrete (though as Joseph says, "it's wood, not concrete!" Somehow that doesn't have the same ring to it...<:-D)

I've used this type of lamp for ages, REALLY like it!
