ReplyDeleteI know that sounds dramatic, but mold itself is a poison (as I learned the hard way from living in 2 different mold-contaminated dwellings), and once the interior of your home is infested with mold spores, the air quality will always pose a potentially serious risk to your health.
If you decide to stay in your home (I don't blame you for not wanting to leave after putting your heart and soul into such a fabulous little home), at first you may not notice anything -- but in the months to come brain fog, respiratory symptoms and a host of other potential health problems are likely to develop.
If these issues remain unchecked, and if you remain in this moldy space, the risk is that your immune system itself will eventually be compromised -- and that will result a long, expensive and very difficult road to recovering your health.
I know. I've been on this road for 10 long years now -- and, if nothing else, I strongly encourage you to begin researching the risks of mold/fungal exposure beginning with this web site: http://www.knowthecause.com/
The dangers are very real, Cathy, and you would be wise to take whatever precautions you can now to protect your health by leaving this contaminated space. Your health is everything....and when you lose it you will realize that an ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure.

I don't doubt the mold-related health issues you've experienced Metta, but moving on account of a mushroom is patently absurd. Besides, this is Kate's shed, not our home - we don't live there.
DeleteWe did have some real mold issues on the house next door that we're rehabbing, but a good hosing down with one of the commercial mold & mildew removal products available (I forget which one) and it's dead and gone.
I googled it and found epsom salts or a vinegar water spray sometime will work if you don't want to use a chemical fungicide. :)

DeleteI would try salt or saltwater first but when all else fails I keep a clorox/water mixture in a spray bottle around which works for almost everything..
