There are a number of legends about that particular figure...he is supposed to represent, among other things, contentment. Some say he brings luck and wealth, but I prefer the alternate--he's often shown with a cloth sack that represents how little he owns, and he's smiling because it is enough.
That twisted wood was an old fence post, isn't it cool?
Great light by the door. And your Buddha spot--love that he's smiling! The laughing and smiling Buddhas are my favorites. Keep tweaking! :)
